Got a MacBook

Few days ago i started using MacBook a little more than often.

I must confess switching from Windows to Macbook at my age will be a steep learning curve.
Not that i claim to be windows veteran., Its just that Mac seems to work in a more reliable way than windows

Its a different experience altogether.

Book Publishing

Since past few months idea of publishing a book has been doing rounds. Now being an septagenarian myself, I know the old style way of doing this .. finding a good publisher and find someone to finance the whole process and take the risk of having 5000 copies with a hope that they will be sold eventually.

And then i come across this fantastic post by David Maister on Self Publishing . He is already a distinguished author of best seller books. He has pointed some excellent starters for achieving this in Internet age.

1) http://www.lulu.com/
2) Getting listed on Amazon

I am collecting all the bits and peices together. and will be looking forward to Davids experiences (He is always so generous with sharing his thoughts )

It has been a long time i had been working on paintings and have evolved a style of my works esp horses and landscapes. Internet and webpages are good for sharing small ideas and events but if you want to tell a 70+ years long story, you need a book. Neat and Tidy compilation of all the works i have done and the evolution of thought process that binds them together.

Lets see how it goes.

Colours of the Sun

I just became a Grand DADDY.
My Son (in Japan) and Daughter -in-law (presently in Bhopal with us) are very excited as they have been blessed with a baby boy.

The feeling of a new life being born seems so much like a morning. everything seems fresh and new.

Those who know about my works till now. .. might notice that my colour plate has changed its ingredients since past some time.

Somehow the colours of ultramarines, burnt umber, mauve have changed to vermillion Reds, and Haldi Yellows and Cobalt Blue (Do you notice the pink halo around the orange morning Sun ! )

and now its time for relishing some "Musik" for the Soul.

Lastly
As I mentioned in my earlier posts about Lalit Kala Academy Exhibition here in Bhopal.
adding the pics

and the paintings here (Looks better with Frame )

Thanks Folks for reading.

Bigger Canvas

.. are a challenge at every step .. starting from the Artist who is painting them .. to the Gallery who will be taking it to the Art lovers .. and then finding the right ambience/space to display that mouthful of work to do it justice.

On "Horse and Nude" series i have started a new work. a little bigger than usual.

For now the painting looks like this.

Just for fun , i have signed it (at the right hand lower corner) signalling the painting having reached a possible destination ... or may be this is just a begining of a new journey.

Let s see if what this painting tells me in next few days.

I will ask Preeti to keep you posted

One of my painting is selected for display in this prestigious art exhibition which is being conducted at Bharat Bhawan in Bhopal this year

Will be posting about this exhibition when this happens in December

Meanwhile attaching the selected painting
Titled "Butterfly"

Have to add some writeup to accompany this painting.

Its not so with most of the paintings .. that i provide a writeup but there are always some paintings which evoke strong feelings and sometimes holds a quick glance to become a long stare.

Do i miss Metros .

Long time ago I made a choice to stay away from metros and settle down in Bhopal.
leaving metros like Bombay (now Mumbai) and Delhi. Sometimes i used to think .. I miss the action that happens there.

But since i have come to know internet, it never cease to amaze me

Especially I used to be more active in the Indian market scene. and today i amazes me .. that internet has actually proliferated the medium of communication so well.. that you can have visitors from far off continents at your internet address.

I am really enjoying the time learning more and more about internet and exploring about what i can do with it. Here is a snap of recent visitors to my site.

Thanks Fello's

What makes great artist

Post in GFX artist by

What makes a great artist?

HERE'S THE WINNING ENTRY!!! (note: unedited)

What makes a great artist?

In my extremeley humble opinion, an artist is someone who creates. Everyone is an artist, being artistic is what seperates us from the animals. What makes a great artist is not the ability they have, or the skill, or the technique, or the experience. A great artist has magnetism, magic, spirit. A great artist makes somebody stop and think, and think again, then reflect and ultimately, react. Wether it be music, the written word, architecture or painting, the ability to make people think about what they are looking at rather than just look and move on, is to me, the greatest gift an artist can posses.

Being technically perfect (if such a skill can be acheived) may be admired and have a certain wow factor but just as a computer can be programmed to play the perfect symphony, it will never have the magic a human, with all his or her imperfections and genius will have. The power to evoke strong emotions in someone with art is a rare feat. Only art with meaning, spirit and a depth that can’t be easily explained can achieve this. To ask someone to go out and create something that will move people is like asking someone to go out and make people fall in love with them. The magic of good art and a good artist is it happens and its something that cannot be explained.

So to me a great artist is someone who can change the way you feel and maybe even change the way you think. And that great artist is sometimes the most unexpected of people - the person who doesn’t realise they are changing the way people feel or think. A great artist won’t create for prestige, or notoriety, or acceptance, or money, or immortality. They just create because...because.

They create. And the creation carries on creating long afterward the artist.
